A writing toolkit built for actual writing work

Most word counters stop at a single number. This one is built for people who need to know more than just how much they've written — they need to know whether it reads well, how its sentences flow, how long it'll take an audience to get through it, whether it fits the platform they're publishing to, and whether they're leaning on the same words or phrases too often. Six tools in one tab bar, all free, all running entirely in your browser. Nothing you type is ever uploaded or stored.

Who this is for Use cases

  • Students and academics checking essays and abstracts against strict word or character limits, with a writing-goal tracker and essay-length presets for longer assignments.
  • Copywriters and marketers fitting headlines, meta descriptions, and ad copy into character caps — checked live against real platform limits for X, SMS, SEO titles, Instagram, LinkedIn, and YouTube.
  • Bloggers and SEO writers watching keyword and phrase density so a word or phrase doesn't repeat enough to look like stuffing.
  • Speechwriters and podcasters using the adjustable speaking-time estimate and the Read Aloud button to hear a script before they ever say it out loud.
  • Novelists and editors using the Flow score and sentence rhythm strip to spot monotonous pacing and vary sentence length.
  • Anyone dictating a first draft instead of typing it, using the built-in speech-to-text Dictate button.
  • Anyone pasting from email or Word using the Clean Text button to strip quote markers and formatting artifacts in one click.
  • Developers and data workers using the Text Compare, Alphabetize, and Case Converter tools to diff, sort, and reformat text without opening a separate app.

How readability & flow are scored Flesch + Flow

The Flesch Reading Ease score uses one of the oldest and most widely used readability formulas, based on average sentence length and average syllables per word. Higher scores (up to 100) mean text that's easier to read at a glance; lower scores indicate longer sentences and denser vocabulary. The Writing Flow Score is different: it measures how varied your sentence lengths are — mixing short, punchy sentences with longer, more complex ones tends to read better and keep readers engaged, while a page of same-length sentences can feel monotonous. The sentence rhythm strip below the score shows every sentence as a colour-coded bar so you can see the pattern at a glance. Neither score is a substitute for a human editor.

What makes this different vs. basic counters

Most free word counters give you a word count and stop there. This toolkit adds features usually locked behind a "pro" plan elsewhere: a Flesch Reading Ease score, a Writing Flow Score with sentence rhythm strip, keyword and repeated-phrase density, a live platform character-limit checker for 7 platforms, a word goal tracker with page-count estimate, a live typing-speed tracker, adjustable reading and speaking WPM, Read Aloud and Dictation powered by your browser's own speech engine, Undo/Redo, Find & Replace, Clean Text, PDF and .doc export, a Text Compare tool, an Alphabetizer, a Case Converter with 10 modes, a Random Words generator, and a Webpage Word Counter — all on one page, updating as you type.

Read Aloud & Dictation Web Speech API

The Read Aloud and Dictate buttons use your browser's own built-in speech engine — nothing is sent to a server for either one. Read Aloud works in effectively every modern browser and includes an adjustable speed slider (0.6× to 1.8×). Dictate works best in Chrome, Edge, and Safari; Firefox has not yet implemented speech recognition, so the button will be greyed out there. Both features are entirely free with no usage limits.

Privacy & security 100% local

Everything on this page — the counting, the readability scores, the autosave, the theme preference — runs and stays locally in your browser using JavaScript and localStorage. Nothing you type is sent to a server, logged, or stored anywhere except your own browser, which only your device can read. Clearing the text box also clears the saved draft. The tool works fully offline once the page has loaded.
